Our Story

Built with care, designed for escape

A family-owned retreat in the heart of Manitoba's lake country.

How It Started

From a dream to a destination

Lac du Bonnet Rentals started with a simple idea: build a place where people could truly disconnect from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with what matters — family, nature, and the kind of quiet that only exists in the Canadian wilderness.

Madison, the owner and builder behind these cabins, grew up spending summers in Manitoba's lake country. That connection to the land never faded. When the opportunity came to build something permanent on the shores of Lac du Bonnet, it wasn't a business decision — it was personal.

Every detail in our cabins is intentional. The cedar timber beams were chosen for their warmth and character. The fire pit circles were positioned for the best sunset views. The hot tubs were placed where you can see the stars. This isn't mass-produced hospitality — it's a labour of love, built by hand, designed for the kind of experience that stays with you long after you leave.

The Vision

Growing from one cabin to three

We're building the premier lakeside retreat destination in eastern Manitoba — one cabin at a time.

Wood Duck Lodge

Our flagship cabin is now open and accepting bookings. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms, sleeps 15. Hot tub, fire pit, full kitchen, and the kind of finishes you don't expect in a cabin rental. This is where it all started.

Granite Sunset Retreat

Our second handcrafted retreat is 90% complete and will welcome its first guests in summer 2026. Same attention to detail, same commitment to quality, with its own unique character and design touches that set it apart from the Lodge.

Fairway Vista Lodge

Currently in early construction, our third property will complete the vision — three distinct luxury cabins, each with its own personality, together creating a retreat destination that can host families, friend groups, and even small corporate gatherings.

Why Here

Why Lac du Bonnet?

We could have built anywhere. We chose Lac du Bonnet because it's the real thing — not a manufactured resort town, not a tourist trap, not a place that tries too hard. It's a genuine Manitoba community on the Winnipeg River, surrounded by boreal forest and Canadian Shield, with the kind of natural beauty that doesn't need a marketing budget.

At just 90 minutes from Winnipeg, Lac du Bonnet is close enough for a weekend getaway but far enough to feel like you've truly escaped. The town has all the essentials — grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants — so you're never roughing it. But step outside town limits and you're in some of the most pristine wilderness in Manitoba.

The fishing is world-class. The snowmobiling trails are among the best in the province. The golf courses are stunning. And the feeling of sitting by a fire on the lakeshore, watching the sun go down behind a wall of spruce trees with no sound but the water and the birds — that's something you can't manufacture.

Lac du Bonnet is eastern Manitoba's best-kept secret. We're here to share it with you — on our terms, with the kind of care and quality that this place deserves.
